Caring for your Maison Alia Linens

Each Maison Alia piece is hand-embroidered and hand-finished in our Tuscan Atelier. A little care preserves both the fabric and the artistry — here is how to keep each collection beautiful for years to come.

Cotton Embroidered Sheets

Our cotton sateen is woven to feel soft from the very first night, and it only grows softer with time when cared for gently.

• Machine wash at 30°C on a gentle cycle, ideally turned inside out to protect the embroidery.
• Use a mild, delicate detergent — avoid bleach and harsh whitening agents, which can weaken both fibre and thread.
• Skip the fabric softener: it builds up on cotton sateen over time and dulls its natural sheen.
• Tumble dry on low heat, or line dry away from direct sunlight.
• Iron while still slightly damp, on the reverse side of embroidered areas, using a medium-warm setting.

Fibra di Legno — Embroidered Sheets

Woven from wood-fibre yarn, this fabric is prized for its exceptional softness and fluid drape — qualities that call for a gentler hand than cotton.

• Wash cold to 30°C maximum, on a delicate cycle, inside out.
• Use a mild detergent formulated for delicate fabrics; avoid bleach entirely.
• Never wring — gently press out excess water instead.
• Dry flat or tumble dry on the lowest setting; avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight, which can weaken the fibre over time.
• Iron on a low-to-medium setting while the fabric is still damp, working on the reverse side over embroidered motifs.

Bath — Terry Towels & Embroidered Robes

Made to be enveloping and absorbent, our terry linens benefit from slightly warmer care than our bed linens.

• Wash new pieces before first use — this restores the natural loft of the terry loops and improves absorbency.
• Machine wash at 30°C for everyday hygiene, turning embroidered towels and robes inside out.
• Avoid fabric softener, which coats the terry fibres and reduces absorbency over time.
• Tumble dry on a moderate setting to keep the loops full and the texture plush; a few minutes in the dryer even after line drying will restore softness.
• Avoid bleach on embroidered details to preserve the thread's colour and finish.

Art de la Table — Embroidered Linen

Table linen lives an eventful life — wine, oil, and candle wax are all part of its story. A little promptness goes a long way.

• Treat stains as soon as possible; the longer they set, the harder they are to lift from natural linen fibres.
• Hand wash or machine wash on a gentle cycle, cold to warm water, with a mild detergent — never bleach.
• Iron while still damp for linen's signature crisp, lustrous finish; a hot iron and steam work best on the reverse side of embroidery.
• For heavily embroidered pieces or delicate antique-effect finishes, dry cleaning is recommended to preserve the handwork.
• Store flat or loosely rolled rather than tightly folded, to avoid permanent creasing along embroidered borders.
